Helping our youth grow in their faith!
The Religious Education Program of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish is dedicated to teaching the faith of the Roman Catholic Church to our youth with excellent volunteer catechists from our parish family.
Recognizing the extreme challenges that the world presents to our youth today, we wish to bring a real experience of faith, hope and love to our children and their families.
Our program teaches Kindergarten through 8th grade.

The Sacraments of the Catholic Church
Through Baptism, Reconciliation, Holy Communion and Confirmation the foundation of Christian life is established. These sacraments give us the grace of Chirst Our Lord to live in His likeness and to fulfill His teachings through our Catholic faith. In Baptism a person is given new life in Christ, strengthened in Confirmation, renewed in Reconciliation and nourished by the Eucharist. These sacraments in particular help us advance toward perfection of charity and reach our ultimate goal - eternal life with God the Father.
Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion
The Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion are the center of a catholic's life. The reception of these sacraments is a sacred event. We therefore recognize the serious responsibility of preparing children for these great sacraments.
- Proper preparation includes classroom lessons as well as home instruction, which is best taught by way of words and example.
- Children must be baptized. A certificate is required for registration.
- Children must have 2 years of instruction prior to reception of Holy Communion.
- Children must attend all classes. A parent note is required for excused absences.
- Attendance at all parent meetings and rehearsals is required.
- Special sacramental fees do apply; contact the Religious Education Office for details.
Sacrament of Confirmation
Confirmation is the sacrament which completes a catholic's formal educational and sacramental initiation into the Catholic Church. Therefore, since Confirmation takes place during 8th grade at Our Lady of Sorrows, we strongly encourage all students to complete their religious studies beginning in Kindergarten and going all the way through to the 8th grade.
- Proper preparation includes classroom lessons as well as home instruction, which is best taught by way of words and example.
